Keith can you do Saturday instead? The lads who have had this run of blanks are due a few to count for all the hours put in.

Plus another factor is that Eels I understand leave a scent trail, hormones or something and the longer between the checks, for now, the more chance others find their way up.

If we start to see big numbers it will need checking every 2 days for sure

Chaps, any shouts for Saturday?

Been discussing numbers with the EA and Joe P from the ZSL. Its still early up at Molesey but would have expected more up even so, I guess we will wait and see how its goes in July.

One comment from the EA is that the big migration last year may have created a "hole" in the habitat downstream of Molesey that is being filled by the juveniles coming into the river now. We may not get a large migration until next year.

By a saying a hole, the Eels preferred habitat is density dependant. So if there are lots already living in an area, the migrating fish will move until they find and area of lower numbers. Therefore the big migration last year may have left holes meaning the elvers are stopping downstream with no need to migrate further.

Fascinating really and why you guys checking, counting, observing at Molesey is so important to the Thames Eel management data.

chacked the trap with andy g whilst we huddled under our brollies catching bream. no eels 1 mitten crab. and ive managed to bugger up the lock. it no longer opens at the code so somehow ive managed to change it. i can bring my bolt croppers along on wednesday and cut it off for the next check. im fairly certain the number is only one digit changed from the old code but for the life of me i couldnt work it out. sorry.

So did I and I was there all day with Patrick! We did get rather wet due to boats coming out of the lock too fast and the water over spilling. That and the fact it was hammering down!
