Thought this has happened before, yes indeed, "In February last year, in an oil spill in the same area of the river, 68 swans were rescued."
Wonder who is doing it, hope they are hunted down & dealt with Evil or Very Mad

PostSubject: Oil spill at Windsor   Sat Jun 22, 2013 4:37 pm

I have just read the terrible news that there has been a bad oil spill on the Thames between Eton and Windsor the media are getting in lather over the swans that had to be rescued.  I am puzzled as to why the media extends such priority to Birds and Otters etcetera over Fish.
I believe that the damage done to the aquatic environment and the fish is far more important. The swans have been rescued and will recover but under the water fish and aquatic insects which are the foundation of the ecosystem could be dying and receiving little or no help whatsoever.
Without the not so cuddly in the public perception fish and the aquatic insects there would be no Kingfishers, Herons, Grebe, Ducks, Swans or any other water bird.

Merged posts.

From what I have seen in the past oil has a severe effect on surface dwellers but does not badly affect the dissolved oxygen. As against sewage where all the bacteria rapidly multiply, sucking out the oxygen, with oil there is nothing for them to feed on.

Problem will be if it sinks and covers the riverbed and of course will have coated the margins and the macrophytes.

I have asked the EA but nothing back as of yet, let's keep our fingers crossed for now.

All the same this is dreadful news and they must find the culprits. Sounds like it has just been poured down a drain and straight into the river.

Hi

Any news on this is terrible.
I heard this on fisherman blues this morning sounds terrible.
Is there a investigation going on the culprits must be caught so it doesn't happen again.

remember a story years ago, someone found oil in windsor, so, me being a slightly on the loony side and allways thinks out side of the box and they cannot find were the oil is coming from, I will tell you,

its coming from the oil field under Windsor, every now and again it leaks into the Thames, then every one runs around like headless chickens

this is my theory,  I thought oof  it first, it is the only theory that no one esle has thought off, as all people think of is it is a boat owner changing his engine oil or someone going for a swim who has a lot of hair gel on his hair,

God save our country and free dom of speech and thinking pirat

Come and listen to a story about a man named Keith

Then one day he was shooting at some food .

And up through the ground came a bubbling crude

I hope when they analyse the oil involved in this incident they will be able to distinguish at least whether it is of the "crude",  "used engine" or "hydropower turbine lubricant" variety Suspect

Spoke to tne EA and seems the oil was very localised, mainly sadly near the swans. No affect on fish as noted before.

The investigation into who the culprits are is throrough but all the same I suspect we will never know.
