Update from Joe:

Hi Everyone

We are still seeing relatively good numbers of elvers at most sites despite the colder weather. On the River Brent, a new site to the programme, three elvers have been found so far. When given an opportunity to do so, it’s always encouraging to see that, elvers will enter even the most urbanised of London’s rivers. Catching eels on sites new to the programme highlights the problems at sites where we’ve been seeing nothing or next to nothing over the last few years.

From mid-June we will be offering places on the ZSL ‘eel run’. It’s not some crazy Pamplona thing , it’s an opportunity to join ZSL staff who check the traps on the Darent, Roding, Wandle and Mole. These are sites that have been monitored since 2005 by ZSL. For those volunteers that are yet to see an eel the trip will provide a greater chance of seeing one…..or perhaps a chance to sit in the ZSL car for 4 hours and still not see one! Please pass me the names and contact details of any volunteers that would like to take part. They will have to be at the Zoo for 9am on a Tuesday or Friday.

…and finally, the latest viral eel internet sensation as viewed by at least 30 people (mostly my family) is on

Joe

Thank you as ever for your efforts.

Best wishes

Another blank I'm sorry to say, apart from a small mitten crab which was safely moved on to a happier place.

With so many of these crabs in the lower river, If I fished it I'd be very tempted to try peelers on a second rod..........

8/6/2013: No eels Neutral
Just 2 crabs, 1 with hard shell, 1 soft (both metamophosed to fish-food) and 1 crazy (still live & kickin').
