Chaps

Saturday 9th Feb we have out annual Penton Hook day cutting back overhang in the spawning channel, opening up a some of the swims on the main river and more. In addition there will be a long overdue flush through of the channel by opening up the Penstock at the head, should be interesting!

More details to follow, be great to have a decent show of volunteers for the day Smile

Cheers

Last year

Nice one chaps Smile

Plan is to meet at 09:00 for an 09:30 start.

Happy to pick anyone up, let me know within reason

EA will have some tools but if you have waders, bring them but we do have some. Bring some food and a drink.

Main works will be to cut back the overgrowth (mainly brambles) along the channel, this is in river works.

The area where the gate is will have some of the trees removed to increase light to the area and promote marginal growth. Matt from the EA is a chain saw expert and he will be doing the cutting but will need plenty of hands around to help.

Some of the wood is going to be used to create a 'pinch point' further down the channel to help scour it out, creating better habitat. This is a new one for us so going to be very interesting bit of work.

In the area where the trees are coming out we hope to have some marginal plants to put in and this will be creating cages to keep them in place. Some old wire fence is around so going to use that.

All in all plenty to do, should rewarding and sure as ever other things will come up as we go along Smile

We can park by the lock at the end of Thames Side, off the B376, TW18 2JA

not sure wot weather is going to be like, not like this time last year, sun glasses, shorts, "T" shirts, but can there be a weather cut of time, no point going if 6" of snow, or 2" hell stones, poring down with rain, 30mph winds from the north, chill factor, I'm getting old

ps

you can see and use the fishing platfoms last year

if the platforms are above the water line, we will need a stiff broom and buckit to give them a good cleaning,

Am well Kev. Work has interfered with play. Getting ramped up though for very next mild spell. If it coincides with a fishable river whoever is out will have it off...and I plan to be one of them.

May see you Sat - Ed has been on my case Very Happy

Great choice - if they go wrong I'm sure we can find some habitat-enhancing use for them...

[..only joking of course - they were delicious last time]

Rock cakes, arggghhhh lol!

I spoke to Stu and Matt of the EA yesterday and both are having a fish afterwards, so anyone who is not a weir permit holder and is helping out is welcome to have a dangle. I won't be myself as have to be elsewhere later, but feel free chaps.
