River Thames Waterway investment programme - 2011/12
Issue two - 15 September 2011

Listed below are the locks that will be closed during the 2011/12 waterway investment programme. The locks will be closed from the first date listed and will re-open on the day after the final date. Canoe portage with care during closure

St Johns 6 February 2012 to 10 February 2012 No
Replacing the lock gate balance beams

Shifford 1 November 2011 to 20 December 2011 No
Refurbishing the lock gates

Iffley 30 January 2012 to 17 February 2012 Yes
Repairs to lock gate ram beams

Days 1 November 2011 to 20 December 2011 No
Refurbishing the lock gates

Benson 1 November 2011 to 16 March 2012 No
Replacing the lock gates

Hambleden 1 November 2011 to 12 January 2012 No
Inspecting and refurbishing the lock gates

Marlow 9 January 2012 to 10 February 2012 Yes
Extensions to lock chamber steps

Bell Weir 14 November 2011 to 18 November 2011 Yes Upgrade of pedestal hydraulics

Chertsey 14 November 2011 to 16 March 2012 Yes
Refurbishing the lock chamber

Sunbury 9 January 2012 to 24 February 2012 Yes
Re-sheeting the lock gates

We are also carrying out other capital works on the waterway during 2011/12, please see below for details. These works will not affect you using the locks during the construction.

Rushey Paddle and Rymer weir - Replace with 3 radial gates plus raised cills on shorter section

Northmoor Paddle and Rymer weir - Replace with 4 radial gates and short fixed crest

Osney weir - Replace existing hand radials and similar and replace pedestrian walkway

Goring Paddle and Rymer weir - Replace with lightweight paddle and rymers and bank works

Streatley Paddle and Rymer weir - Replace with lightweight paddle and rymers on submerged penstock

Boveney – Continued bank protection works in the Boveney Reach.

Staines – Bank protection to the river bank adjacent to the gasworks and towpath.

Shepperton – Bank protection to the weir side of the lock island adjacent to the canoe slalom.

Sunbury Old Lock - refurbishment of old lock.
